Helsinki, 31 October 2013
Proceedings in the
ongoing trial of opposition leader Madam Victoire Ingabire, who was arrested
three years ago and charged with politically motivated counts, has been
postponed to 13 December 2013, when the Supreme Court will announce the final
verdict. The verdict was due tomorrow, 01 November 2013 but again it was
adjourned at the 25th hour.
Another key leader
of the FDU-Inkingi, Mr. Sylvain Sibomana, the interim Secretary General, is
still in prison since his arrest within the premises of the Supreme Court on
the 25th of March 2013. He has been tortured. He lost at least one tooth, which
was destroyed, shattered and splintered into the jaw.
We call upon the
key partners of Rwanda, i.e. China, US, EU, UK, Germany and the Netherlands to
urge President Paul Kagame to immediately release these and other political
prisoners including Mr. Bernard Ntaganda (PS-Imberakuri), Mr. Deogratias
Mushayidi (PDP-Imanzi), Dr. Theoneste Niyitegeka (Presidential Candidate in
2003) being held in his jails and to undertake measures to improve human rights
conditions in Rwanda.
