Hungry for Truth, Peace and Justice

S.O.S : Freedom now for Mr. Deogratias Mushayidi, Mrs. Victoire Ingabire Umuhoza and other political opponents!

From April 26 to May 15, 2010, we, members of the Rwandan civil society in Belgium, have held a sit-in in front of the Embassy of Rwanda in Brussels.

The purpose of this peaceful demonstration is to demand that all political opponents that are currently incarcerated be released without delay. This request particularly applies to Mr. Deogratias Mushayidi, Chairman of the People's Defense Pact (PDP-Imanzi), Dr. Theoneste Niyitegeka, former presidential candidate in 2003, and Mr. Charles Ntakirutinka, Secretary General of the Party for Democracy and Renewal-Ubuyanja (PDR-Ubuyanja).

We particularly emphasize the case of Mrs. Ingabire Umuhoza, Chaiperson of the United Democratic Forces (UDF-Inkingi) so that untimely harassment, intimidation and deceptive prosecution against her by the Kigali regime can be brought to an end and that her rights for movement, opinion, expression and political participation in the establishment of democracy in her country, Rwanda, can be reinstated.

The opening of political space in Rwanda is necessary and urgent. Otherwise, the upcoming presidential elections in August 2010 will again be a farce.

The instinctive fear constantly expressed by President Paul Kagame has no reason to be. Mrs. Umuhoza, “the one who consoles”, as her name stands for, is not back home in order to cause troubles but to contribute to the establishment of the rule of law and a reconciled Rwandan society.

The dictatorial oligarchy in power in Kigali has established terror and phobia in Rwanda.

Currently, the boomerang effect of such an enterprise is catching up with the decadent dictator himself, ironically called “strong man in Kigali”.

He goes so far as to publicly label Rwandan exiles that fled his abuses as excrements. He verbally attacks Mrs. Victoire Ingabire Umuhoza in his speeches and encourages the media and political-judicial lynching of this democratic lady, whose efficiency and determination he fears so much.

On this 15th day of May 2010, the organizers of the Sit-In in front of the Embassy of Rwanda in Brussels (Belgium) decreed a truce so that the Kigali regime may regain selfcontrol and quickly find the path to reason, peace, and inter-Rwandan dialogue for the good of the Rwandan people.
