New York, NY (PRWEB) August 1, 2009 -- After months of fundraising efforts, Protravel International's partnership with FXB USA, an international humanitarian organization, has come to fruition with the launch of the Protravel-FXB Village in Cyeza, Rwanda. The Village will bring a comprehensive package of assistance, including healthcare, education and economic opportunity to 80 impoverished families and reach approximately 500 children and adults.

Protravel's sponsorship was conceived by founder and President Priscilla Alexander as a way to honor its 25th anniversary. Katie Cohen, Director of Village Fundraising at Protravel, says that the effort has reinvigorated Protravel's staff and their commitment to social responsibility. "We began this partnership to commemorate Protravel's anniversary, but it has since taken on a more significant meaning thanks to the enthusiasm of our employees and partners. Protravel now feels that it has a mission to increase its social responsibility- a commitment which will continue to thrive even after the Protravel-FXB Village concludes."

The goal of the initiative is to build a self-sufficient community in Rwanda, a country devastated by poverty, war, and AIDS. Over the next three years, the Village in Cyeza will provide 80 needy families with the tools and training necessary to help permanently lift them out of poverty. Thanks to Protravel, all families will receive health care, school support, HIV testing and treatment, improved sanitation, psychosocial support, and capital to start a small business.

The success of previous FXB-Villages drew Protravel towards the partnership - over 85% of households live above the poverty line at the end of the program and maintain self-sufficiency thereafter. The Village's attainable goals will ensure that Protravel's dedicated fundraising efforts will be met with visible results. Ms. Alexander plans to visit the Village in the fall to meet beneficiaries and observe the impact of Protravel's fundraising efforts firsthand.
