Dr. Leopold Munyakazi's arrest a disgrace

By Djuma Ngilinshuti

Today Leopold Munyakazi was arrested by the US immigration services because he supposedly had overstayed his visa. But it is clear this arrest is directly related to the slanderous accusations leveled by the murderous regime of Paul Kagame. A regime that has had the full support of subsequent US administrations while executing mass murder inside the Congo.

I therefore wrote this email to the President of Goucher College:

"Dear President of Goucher College, teachers, students and other personel. I would like to stress the fact that the Rwandan government has a habit of accusing anyone who is against her of genocide. One of the easiest examples for you to understand is the accusation (issued by the Rwandan ambassador in the US) against Robert Krueger, the former senator of Texas, of sending arms to the FDLR.

In other words I am very disappointed by the fact that you, President of Goucher college, removed Leopold Munyakazi as French teacher from his position because of accusations leveled by the regime in Kigali. A regime that has won it's last election with more then 95 percent of the vote.

In Spain 40 of Kagame's RPF army senior officers have been accused of crimes against humanity and acts of genocide committed inside Rwanda and the Congo. These substantiated claims are being taken very seriously by the Spanish justice system.

The regime in Kigali does not have any legitimacy whatsoever. The regime rather has been busy killing civilians inside the Congo over the last decade and still uses the FDLR as pretext to invade a sovereign country today. Former MONUC commander Patrick Cammaert has made it clear that the FDLR poses no threat to Rwanda whatsoever. So all that is left is the fact that Kagame and his revolutionary army uses the FDLR as a pretext to continue their police state and to refuse the Rwandan people their rights as citizens.

Dr Leopold Munyakazi wrote me back:

"Thank you very much for your accurate comment. You're among the rare Americans who have a genuine understanding of the situation in Rwanda. Most people are victims of disinformation, manipulation and big lies. i'm myself disapppointed by the fact that an Academic Institution has taken a serious decision on the basis of groundless allegations.I keep hoping that the truth will finally come out."

When will those influential American politicians be held accountable for covering up the truth about what has been going on in the Congo over the last decade?

It is always a pleasure to discuss issues of the great lakes region. One thing however has to be clarified.

I hate people who withough any facts would urge that Munyakazi is a victim. I have personally met with Munyakazi and he admitted to me that there was no genocide in Rwanda. He was a professor in Rwanda and knows very well the Hutu Ten commandments.

He is aware that Tutsis were targeted with the intention to exterminate them. He is aware that he was a Hutu and he was not among those targeted. Most of all he knows very well the roadblocks he manned and people who were killed on such road blocks. If you want to sideline with Munyakazi go ahead but sooner than later you will realise that Munyakzi is guilty of the crimes he committed.

To those who talk about Krueger, you should find out why his tenure in Burundi was prematurely terminated. He had failed live to principles set out for him and had instead sided with warring parties.

Today it is afact he denies that genocide happened in Rwanda. Perhaps he need to convince the UN Security Counsil to revoke resolution 955 which established ICTR.

We all know genocide was commited in Rwanda and it is through justice that we can know those who were involved.

Let Munyakazi face justice, his guiltness or innocence will be determined by courts.

He should be sent to Rwanda where the case file is now complete.

The International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda has been prosecuting people for their role in the Rwandan genocide, yet, curiously enough, 14 years after its establishment is when Dr. Munyakazi’s name shows up.

So, one may ask, in a country that prides itself on freedom of speech especially in an erudite institution such as Goucher College, how can a professional such as Dr. Munyakazi be suspended without a substantiated indictment?

If the world continues to be complicit to the Rwandan Government’s punitive actions against their indigenous critics, will the people of Rwanda and Congo never know peace?

Isn’t it each and every person’s moral obligation to speak up, intervene, and insure that all culprits for crimes against humanity are brought to justice? Including, but especially those in higher positions and of greater influence? Why does it seem as though the world is complicit in continuing to punish the powerless?

Everyday, more and more reports from the likes of the United Nations, Human Rights Watch, and other independent journalists are surfacing detailing the Rwandan Government’s involvement in the on going genocide against the Congolese people. So far, six million lives have been lost.

Among the crimes being discovered at the hands of Rwandan officials and their proxies are rape and violence as a weapons against countless women, sodomizing teenage boys by forcing them to have sex with their own mothers before they are hacked to death, the use of child soldiers, amputations, displacement of over a million Congolese, and the destruction of Rwandan Refugee camps that claimed over 300 000 people in a matter of several.

There have been reports of annihilated villages in Rwanda, killings of hundreds and thousands of Rwandan citizens, imprisoning a multitude of people for years with no proven charges against them, committing mass massacres such as the ones in Kibeho in 1995, just to name a few.

Perpetrators of such crimes should not be allowed by the civilized world the moral high ground to judge anyone.

My reaction to what "anonymous" said.

1. "I have personally met with Munyakazi and he admitted to me that there was no genocide in Rwanda".

- If you want to be considered a credible witness, don’t hide behind anonymity. Let’s know who you are. No one will do any harm to you.
- Let people know when and where you’ve met with me. What topic did we debate on? Who can testify to the reality of this event?
- No one on earth can deny that there were mass killings in Rwanda since October 1, 1990.

The problem is that many names are used by different witnesses and observers to qualify this tragedy. Why should we be forced to use the only term of "genocide" which is actually inappropriate? Why don’t you use the term "fratricide" that seems to fit better the reality?

2. "I hate people who withough any facts would urge that Munyakazi is a victim".

Only people like you who were not in Rwanda in 1990-1994 and don’t know my story dare to say that I am not a victim. I was targeted not only by the militias, but also by the RPF squads. The RPF regime kept persecuting me up to now. What kind of facts do you expect to receive? If you don’t know anything about me, why should you fabricate?

What facts do you bring in to let people think that I am a criminal? Why do you hate people who don’t share your opinions?

3. "He was a professor in Rwanda and knows very well the Hutu Ten commandments".

Could you please tell us who established these "Hutu Ten commandments"? How can you rely on unauthenticated leaflets? Why don’t you mention the "Seventeen Tutsi commandments" nor the "Eighteen Rules for the Tutsi Colonization of the Kivu"?

Your knowledge of the historical basics is so truncated and biased that it can’t be credible.

4. "He is aware that Tutsis were targeted with the intention to exterminate them. He is aware that he was a Hutu and he was not among those targeted".

It’s quite false to say that only Tutsi were targeted. The RPF killed systematically all Hutu people and Tutsi who didn’t embrace its agenda.

The FAR and militias killed systematically all Tutsi and Hutu people who were believed to collaborate with the RPF invaders.

This is the truth the Kagame regime and its Western supporters don’t like to hear from eyewitnesses.

Have you ever revealed the true number of the Tutsi, Hutu and Twa who were killed by both belligerent parties since October 1, 1990?

Not only was I targeted, but also am I still a "scholar at risk".

5. "Most of all he knows very well the roadblocks he manned and people who were killed on such road blocks. If you want to sideline with Munyakazi go ahead but sooner than later you will realise that Munyakzi is guilty of the crimes he committed".

Could you please tell us where and when I manned roadblocks and people who were killed? Could you provide details and evidence of the crimes you’re pretending I have committed?

Enough is enough. You should stop immediately your heinous campaign of manipulation, disinformation and big lies.

Those who pretend to be the victims are actually the killers, and research is providing evidence every single day.

Anonymous makes a comment about Robert Krueger in the (above)letter which I wrote to President of Goucher College. It reminds ofthe unfounded allegations Sharangabo Rufagari made against Robert Krueger on my blog last year on the CNDP website relationship to the Rwandan diaspora.
