SPREE OF ASSASSINATIONS OF RWANDAN REFUGEES IN UGANDA

By Boniface Twagirimana
FDU-INKINGI
Interim Vice President
Kigali, 29 December 2011

Mr. Jerome NDAGIJIMANA, a Rwandan refugee was murdered in a Kampala suburb. The Ugandan New Vision wrote on 27 December 2011 that the body of NDAGIJIMANA, a resident of MUZANA zone, was found lying in a pool of blood in his shop, with his throat slit on Monday morning.

On November 30, a Rwandan journalist Charles Ingabire, editor of the online publication Inyenyeri News and a vocal critic of the Rwandan government, was shot twice in the chest as he was leaving a bar in the Bukesa-Kikoni Makerere area of Kampala late at night.

This spree of assassinations of Rwandan refugees abroad needs to be investigated thoroughly. Mr. Jerome NDAGIJIMANA, was granted refugee asylum on 18 March 2011 and registered by the Refugee Eligibility Committee under the number 66/2011.

We call upon the international community and human rights bodies to investigate these selective killings targeting Rwandan refugees in different countries.
