On the ongoing cover-up for Paul Kagame’s death in Rwanda

It has been 7 months that the Rwandan President Paul Kagame disappeared from the public view. The last time Paul Kagame was seen in public was last February during the 17th National Dialogue, which was held from February 18-20, 2020 at the Kigali Convention Center, a day after the assassination of Mr. Kizito Mihigo, who was found dead on February 17, 2020 in a police cell.

Members of Kagame’s political party, the Rwandan Patriotic Front (RPF) have evoked Covid-19 lockdown restrictions as a reason for such a prolonged disappearance. This argument has already been debunked by many critics citing other presidents in the African Great Lakes region who have continued to publicly address their people amid this pandemic while enforcing similar restrictive measures for Covid-19.

While some of Kagame’s critics have exercised extreme caution and have remained silent about this worrisome situation, others have openly denounced such a cover-up and have called upon the Rwandan government for explanations to no avail.  Instead, since March 2020, the Rwandan government has resorted to the use of fake videos so that it may mislead the public opinion into believing that President Kagame is doing well. There is compiling evidence to suggest that Kagame is either dead or irreversibly disabled due to a brain tumor.

The most recent evidence of Kagame’s death/disability came about last week. The US State Department had summoned Paul Kagame over Mr. Paul Rusesabagina’s abduction from Dubai, UAE. Paul Kagame who was supposed to report to New York on September 29, 2020 did not show up allegedly because the information about his summon had been leaked to the public. Apparently, he rescheduled it for the following day, on October 1, 2020. Surprisingly, Paul Kagame, once again failed to show up and the US State Department delegation was received by the Rwandan Ambassador to the US.

Currently, Kagame’s supporters in the diaspora are spreading rumors from undisclosed sources alleging that “an African head of state, who is believed to be Paul Kagame, is being treated at MD Anderson Cancer Treatment Center in Houston, TX”. Such rumors may be aimed at sanitizing the news about Paul Kagame’s ongoing prolonged disappearance so that the public opinion may end up believing that Kagame is still alive despite the fact that reliable sources unquestionably attest that he was pronounced brain dead/irreversibly disabled due to a brain tumor since April 2020.
