The assassination of my colleague, mentor and best friend, Colonel Patrick Karegeya, in Johannesburg (South Africa) on 01.01.2014 is a life-changing call. His extraordinary courage, leadership, strength, foresight will continue to serve us as a source of remarkable dedication to our motherland until freedom is won.
He is the true hero of our struggle for lasting peace in Rwanda. Patrick was a great thoughtful leader. I will always remember and honor him as a hero.
My thoughts and prayers go out to his family, to all the members of the Rwandan opposition, to all his friends, to his comrades sharing his ideal.
His assassination would change the face of Rwanda forever. Alea iacta est. The ball is in our court now to perpetuate and achieve his dream and legacy.
May Almighty God grant to his family and all of us, his friends, colleagues, comrades, the courage and strength to bear this irreparable loss.
